The Gospel According to Matthew
Matthew 5:43-48 Love your Enemies (ESV 964)
Announcements:
Call to Worship: The Nicene Creed We believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, begotten from the Father before all ages, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made; of the same essence as the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven; he became incarnate by the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary, and was made human. He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate; he suffered and was buried. The third day he rose again, according to the Scriptures. He ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again with glory to judge the living and the dead. His kingdom will never end. And we believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life. He proceeds from the Father and the Son, and with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified. He spoke through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church. We affirm one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look forward to the resurrection of the dead, and to life in the world to come. Amen.

Confession Holy Father, you are our Creator, order-er and provider. We confess the sins of our nation are seen is our playing god, refusing to hold to the sacred distinctions of men and women, and promoting the wicked injustices occurring from this worship of the will of man. We deserve your curse and anger. We ask for mercy. We confess that we arrogantly think we are special as Christians because we can call out the sins in others while we neglect to repent of our own. Thinking we are wise or have moved past cultural sins, we refuse to allow your word to penetrate the sins of our heart. We hold on to past sins, not repenting of them or bringing them to the cross. We, finding the desirable new definition, and rename our sins through a psycholog-ized lens. We call sins struggles. We call selfishness weakness. We call bitterness or laziness our rights. Forgive us. Bring us to repentance in the depths of our being. Thank you for the mercy which penetrates to the recesses of our souls and gives us the right and conscience-freeing way to live. Amen.
